Art Imitating Life… New Figures 2021

It feels like a long time has passed since the first Bad Wolf figures were released last year, so I’m delighted that I’m now able to release seven brand new figures to start 2021.

All of my model making has tried to capture real life events, so I have taken the same approach with these new figures, all are based on real moments and events from Formula 1’s rich history. All are now available to buy from this site and from other good online model shops, so I really hope that you enjoy them!

BW43013 – Taxi Ride 2

This is an iconic image, which requires no introduction from me. This image is known the world-over, but is one that resonates with me in particular. I was there that day (14th July 1991), to see Nigel Mansell take victory at the British Grand Prix, and this was also the subject of my first large-scale diorama (a gallery of which can be found here).

I started working on these figures last summer and had originally wanted these 2x figures to be part of the first set of figures that I released. However, I soon found that it was easy to make the two poses but much harder to design them both so that they fit the Tameo Williams FW14 kits without the need for modification. Many hours of work went into these little chaps, so I’m hoping that they prove useful to all the modelers out there.

BW43014 – Podium Shoey

Daniel Ricciardo’s irreverence has been very welcome in F1, and he has shared his podium “shoey” with many fellow drivers and celebrities on the podium over recent years. Credit for this idea has to go to Ed Roberts from Ontario, Canada, who contacted me last year suggesting that this figure be included in the range. A complimentary figure is already on its way to Ed by way of a thank you!!

BW43015 – Drivers Arguing

I love looking at old F1 photographs, not only because I enjoy reminiscing about the sport, but because sometimes an image crops up which lends itself perfectly to recreation in miniature. I stumbled across this photo last summer, whilst browsing through the 1990 F1 year book, and the emotion etched into the body language and facial expressions perfectly communicates the feelings of the drivers. Hopefully this is something that I’ve been able to capture in these figures

BW43016 – Driver Despairing

As per my blog of earlier this year, a real joy for me during 2020 was watching George Russell’s rise to prominence, not only during his one-off drive for Mercedes in Sakhir, but also during some stellar drives for Williams. This figures is based upon George’s pose when he returned to the pits in Sakhir after being robbed of the chance of victory. Hopefully 2021 will see the Williams team continue to move up the grid, before the driver merry-go-round begins in earnest.

BW43017 – Driver Sitting

This is another figure inspired by George Russell’s 2020 season, this time from a more difficult moment when he had crashed behind the safety car at Imola. Again, the strength of the image is what attracted me here… the dejection and disappointment is clear for all to see. I’m hoping that Geoge can give me some further inspiration in 2021, but hopefully from images celebrating his success in the new season.

BW43018 – Driver Resting

Fernando Alonso’s return to F1 in 2021 is one of this year’s most exciting prospects, but who can forget his classic pose sunbathing in Brazil in 2015 when he was forced to suffer another retirement in his McLaren Honda? Alonso has always been a skilled communicator, and he was able to conjure this iconic image in order to let his many fans know his frustration. Alonso is a driver whose talent deserves more than the two World Titles he won back in 2005 & 2006… only time will tell if his return with the former Renault team will bring the third Championship he so clearly craves.

As always, I’d love to hear your feedback (both positive and critical), and would love to hear of any ideas that you have for future releases.
